WELSH ROWING JUNIOR & U19 PATHWAY

Welsh Rowing has a Junior Development Rowing pathway that is going from strength to strength, with a growing number of eligible athletes and performance. The ultimate goal of the Junior Dedvelopment Programme is help support, develop and produce athletes capable of representing Wales and Great Britain at the U19 level and on into U23 & Senior rowing.

We recognise that many who are Welsh eligible and can represent Wales at the Home International Regatta, are based in clubs across the UK. Welsh Rowing recognises that these individuals deserve support to aid their development, tailored to their current situation. We appreciate some athletes may not be able to participate in all/any U19 Welsh Rowing events throughout the year, either due to thier location or membership at a high performance club/School. However, this does not mean they are not able to represent Wales or recieve support from Welsh Rowing.

The most common areas of support and development we provide at the junior level are:

  • Welsh Rowing U19 Training Days and Camps
  • Club visits/coaching by U19 National Coach
  • Nutrition and S&C support
  • National Squad Athletes recieve additional support & Coaching from National Coach
  • Racing oppurtuities in UK & abroad
  • Financial Support

The Development days are aimed at those targeting representing Wales at the forthcoming HIR regatta. These events can be single days, weekends, or longer residential camps, depending on facilities, dates and resources available. All athletes, their parents and coaches who have registered as a Welsh Eligible athlete for the current season, will receive all of the information for each camp and registration details in advance.

The Development training days/camps are hosted varied locations across Wales and England. The aim of these camps is to gather our top performing Welsh U19 & J16 athletes to train together and recieve coaching from our Welsh National Team Coaches. These camps are also a good oppurtunity for the coaches to test athletes and gain information about thier performance.

To register as a Welsh Identfied Junior Athlete, interested in representing Wales please follow this link: WELSH ELIGIBILITY REGISTRATION FORM

Once registered, the athlete, coach & parent will be added to the 'Identified Athlete Group' and will recieve any communications from the U19 National Coach: William King - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Junior athletes will have the oppurtunity to join one of our U19 squads (Welsh U19 National Squad, Welsh U19 Talent Pool, Welsh Pathway Athletes) all of which will have the oppurtunity to attend training days and camps, with other Welsh athletes within the pathway. The aim of this is to not only raise the standard of our Welsh athlete's across the UK, but also give these athletes the chance to train together in crews, along with further oppurtunties to develop their rowing, in advance of potential HIR selection.
